Swimming the Channel - Stravinsky
Revisited
Choreography by Amy Chavasse
The University of Michigan, School of Music, Theatre & Dance 2008
I. First woman to swim the English Channel
II. The eruption of Mt. Vesuvius
III. Attempted assassination of Lenin
IV. The invention of the portable vacuum cleaner
V. The murder of Trotsky (climbing axe in the head)
Choreographer’s Notes: The organizing and inspirational element that drove the creation of the dance comes from identifying events that occurred during the years in which each piece of music by Stravinsky was premiered.
I was asked to create short animations illustrating the above five events.
